The spinning top actually floats freely in thin air like magic. You can put objects between the base and the top or even slide a glass jar around it to prove this amazing levitation.

There are no strings or batteries, simply the power of magnets. Spinning the top will achieve a stable equilibrium between the magnetic field produced by the base magnet, gravity and the gyroscopic forces of the top.

Then ease the lifter plate up and move out of the way and the top will hover and spin in one place.

After 2 minutes the spin revolutions drop to below 20 per second and the top becomes unstable, falling away from the magnetic field. This occurs due to the friction between the top and the surrounding air.

Scientists have placed the Levitron Anti Gravity Top in a vacuum and these eventually became unstable after 30 minutes.

By using adjustable weights (included) you can vary the height of the levitation where the magnetic field is in equilibrium with gravity.
